El Porton Mexican Restaurant in Memphis

So I used to love this El Portion, but not so much anymore. When you choose to eat out somewhere it's got to have a combination of good things and this place just lost 2 outta 3. First, the new location SUCKS! It's cramped and dark inside, secondly, the service has gone way down. I eat here maybe 3-4 times a month. Their salsa is top notch and my partner loves one particular dish. The service is horrible, we tolerate it for our taste buds but I'm not sure others will. There's too much competition out there in this category and if you can't nail down good service, you might not survive. **Other El Porton locations have much better service

Poor service order mix up. Manager didn't resolve issue. But food was good

If you’re black, don’t expect good service. My friends and I sat for 10 minutes waiting for service. We couldn’t even get any drinks. Then, when I asked for a waiter/waitress to service us, an employee gave me and awful attitude. We walked out & won’t be returning ever again.

Food got cold waiting on sour cream that I still had to pay extra for!😕 & Drinks were weak! But at least the breeze on the patio was nice. I used to love this place!

It used to be better when I was in college over 10 years ago. The quality of the food has decreased and the customer service is not as good. I guess I'll have to find another go-to Mexican restaurant when I visit Memphis.

Great service even better martinis

We go there all the time because it's close to home. There's one waiter we always get and he's just the sweetest to us an our boys. Food is always a good temp (ours is hot whereas the little ones' is warm)

It was kool but the salsa was just too hot me, didn't have enough meat to even out with muy veg.. the waiter didn't check on ur as he should,maybe he was having a bad day..

The food was really tasty, the staff friendly, decent prices, and quick service. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Food was good and hot (literally) drinks were PERFECT Monzerra was an excellent server.I will say something about the food was off still good but just off.

I have been going to this place sinse I was 13 years old, and I have to say this place has gone to trash sinse they moved to the new location; I waited good two years to write the review in hopes that they turn their self around, but sadly no. Aweful customer service, waiters were unattentive, slow, and rude at times, and at some points they even get the orders wrong completely and then blame it on me (which at that point in time I was about to get into a fist fight with the waiter), but the food is a hit and a miss at times which is extremely disappointing. Truly the only way to fix this is mess is to first fire the manager now, and all of the waiters! Replace them with competent, nice, and hard-working individuala, once that is done I will happily change and or delete this review!IF I GET AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE FROM AN OUTSIDE P.R. COMPANY, I WILL NEVER ENGAGED AND/OR CHANGE THIS REVIEW!

The meat was so dry i couldn't eat it even with a drink and me and my girlfriend both thought the meat had a little too much seasoning everything else was fine

Could be the worst Mexican food I've ever had. If I could give 0 stars and still leave a review I would. Orders came incorrect and the manager rolled his eyes and cursed in spanish(he didn't think I caught that) when we asked for them to be corrected. The food was sub par to say the least and the drinks were watery. Dont waste your time, go to taco bell down the street for a better all around experience.

Waited for a seat on the patio. After 29 minutes a group of guys sat at an open table with their to go orders. When went in to the hostess she said no one has left or been seated. Unfortunately, my party of 3 witnessed this. We left after hostess lied and we're immediately taken on a competitions patio.

It's a decent place

The food was good. The service was good. We enjoyed it.

It's ok. The salsa and chips are good. The red sauce on the burrito was kinda like tomato soup tasting. Wasn't overly impressed but I'd go again.

giving it a 1 Star is me being generous. Waiter was rude as hell, didn’t give us straws, took about 40 mins just to order, took too long on refills, and food was HORRIBLE. We kept tryna ask for something and waiter would just walk away and not even acknowledge us. Food was overpriced as well. Wouldn’t recommend going there for anything, was really disappointed with the service.

When l am good l treat myself to El Porton on Poplar in Memphis. The food is so good but, being a former server it is service l want and get at El Porton. My son is a whiner but he loved the food. Always fresh and delicious. Worth your time and money to visit. I love the poblano pepper meals!

We used to come here all the time. It had been a while since we came here and I’m not sure if they switched management but the experience used to be pleasant. We walked through the door and we were waiting to be seated but my boyfriend had to use the restroom. We asked the hostess were the restroom was and she quickly replied “We don’t allow the public to use our restrooms” we told her that we were going to be eating there and she rolled her eyes. We left. Her attitude was terrible. I will not spend money anywhere where the service is horrible. We went to El Toro Loco in East Memphis only got Margaritas and tipped the waitress 13$ . Word of advice to El Porton (Fix your employee’s attitudes, and you might make money)

My family loves this restaurant. The menu offers an amazing variety, and everything we've tried has been fresh and delicious. The servers are friendly and attentive. If you go, you have to try the guacamole!

My second trip there and the food was great.

I love their food and drinks ! Some works are friendly n provide good service! Others not so much!

The Kiwi Strawberry margarita it AMAZING. However, the food isn't that great and our waitress was a little pushy. I may be back just for cocktails.

Average Mexican food at best. Been here a few times and nothing special...

Pretty much the same as everyone else. Food was good, but the service sucked. For some reason my waitress had all of the bar tables and my one table up against the front wall. Have barely seen her. Had two other people have to help me, and I'm not a picky guest. I've been in the industry for years. Whoever set up this floor chart is an idiot, though.

The service was quick and efficient. We had a couple different servers check on us. The salsa is delicious and the El Porton dip is a great hearty version of the cheese dip.

Good drinks, decent food, okay service.

Little pricey . My buddy ordered shrimp and steak fajitas and the server came out with 3 shrimp and like 3 strips of steak that maybe were bout 16th of and inch thick. He asked if he could get more so he could make his fajitas. The server flat out told him he would ne charged for more. You can bet that his plate was full of onions and bell peppers. Wow really. We will not be back, and stated that too her. .Really really wow food was over priced for the amount. We will go down road and enjoy their Mexican food

Good Mexican food with plenty of options. The service is great and the restaurant is clean. The space use to be a buffalo wild wings so it has tall ceilings. It can be difficult to hear because of that when the place is crowded. It has a good bar to watch sports at because of what it was.
